Yeah, I see my last entry was about 10 months ago and a lot has happened since then. To summarise, my partner lost his job and we had to get on unemployment to get by. This triggered a certain desponency in both of us, and probably also a bout of depression. Partner has now gotten a new permanent job with a big big big company, so things are getting back to normal. My searches were not as fruitful, and I looked instead at doing training, so I am now up to my waist in a 5-week Small Business Course, have my new doll sculpt 97% finished and it also looks like we are moving interstate in the next 6 months.

Anyway,

The aim of the course is to produce a business plan for a small business venture and it should be no surprise to anyone that I am trying to set myself up as a doll artist. I am hoping that going through the process of proper planning and preparation, as well as analysing my previous approach and downfalls (external and internal) will make me better prepared for when I kick off again. And all in just five weeks.... one down three and a half to go!!!

Part of the research is to do market studies and trying to pinpoint whether my potential business is going to be of interest to a part of the market.

Ignoring for a moment that I haven't had much time to put consideration into what sort of questions to ask, and given the limit of SurveyMonkey.com's free accounts (max. 10 questions) the survey is probably a little cramped and the focus is all over the place, but regardless of this I would ask those of you who can spare the time to sit down and take a moment to ponder and write down your answers to these questions:

Survey: BJD Buying & Collecting

After you complete the survey (or even just look at it) I am open to feedback and suggestions, criticism etc. And please encourage other BJD enthused friends to take the survey as well, the more people who respond the clearer the trends will become for me to draw conclusions from.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me out with this :)

The only incentive I can really offer is that once I finish the course I can get back to finishing my doll, and starting the next one etc. And of course I will be able to share the results of the survey once I have a number of responses to correlate.

She's been a long time in the making, countless delays and problems holding us up along the way ~ it's been a tremendous journey, but she's here now, ready to order and ready to ship. Please follow the link to order; there are only 50 dolls available, in three skintones. These dolls have already been cast so if you want a specific skintone get in quick before it sells out...

So I went to the US of A for the Annual BJD Artist Workshop Retreat again this year... this time as an attendee and not a presenter, and took care of some other business while I was there as well, such as speaking to the production team that's working on Ylisande, and getting batchix to snap some shots of me at Joann's Etc with the (almost) most recent issue of Doll Reader, which just happens to have Ylisande on the cover. Faceup by the amazingly talented Lilykoi and costume by Ruth King. This is actually the first doll I ever cast with my molds, the junk cast used to clean out the molds and make sure everything was okay... This one right here!!

She now resides in the display cabinet at Dollfair... btw I do need to recount my tales from this years event... as I never did so last year.. but I am still recuperating and working through unpacking and housework and whatnot, plus I have to do it in two languages since my parents want to hear about it too. Although frankly they do read English, so maybe their privelege will mostly be to hear it first. I'm thinking it might be an f-locked entry if I ever get around to posting it.

Molds are finished; here are some pictures of the first cast.

Go here to see more pictures.
Still need to tweak the stringing and internal workings. This is not a doll for beginners!! She'll take practice to pose, and will definitely require sueding. These parts are all "junk" ~ first pours with grit in them. I have cleaned off the gatemarks, but not sanded the seams. They are not very big She's lovely and smooth, all the priming really paid off. Some small issues that I will clean up in the grey cast that will be the Enchantment Doll master. She's wearing 12mm eyes, but I like her better with 10mm. She's a creamy white resin ~ can't wait to see her with a faceup....

I got her to stand unaided on her high heeled feet at one point. Gonna try cable ties instead of coated wire to hold the knee joints in place. Taking the rest of today and tomorrow off, I'm going to have beer now, I think.

These are handmade by my mom, she's been working on getting the pattern and fit right and has sent me this first batch to take a look at. I've taken out a couple that I am keeping for my own girls, but I'm putting most of them up for sale, and I've got more coming in the near future, including two-piece bikinis. The black one that Angie is wearing is not for sale but why don't you see what's available...Collapse )

Of course I wasn't really dead at all, unless you count my zombie on Facebook...

I have just been making busy in my workshop, building a new dollie. And this time I have made a whole doll.. head and all. Did the final test-stringing this week and she's now apart again for some final touches and then primering before molding. So I have pictures!!

Meet Ylisande...Collapse )

Crossposted from Den of Angels, ArmeleiaLand and Aimeekitty at community.livejournal.com/queenjune:

http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=191869

The forum has been having errors for awhile now, and they have been steadily getting worse. It is a combination of our server and our vBulletin installation. We have decided that the best course of action for the forum is for us to move to a new server and set up a fresh installation of vBulletin.

At this point, most of the forum is closed. The only things that you can do on DoA right now are 1) read/send PMs, 2) download your PMs, and 3) read this subforum! You will not be able to post or access the subforums; please do not try.

Here is some information that is very important for you to read and understand.

1. We are moving to a new server.
We will be moving to a new server with a different datacenter. We are still deciding on which hosting company we will be buying through, but we are hoping to have a new server by the end of the week. The site will continue to be located at denofangels.com.

2. When we move, we will not be taking our PMs with us.
The PM database is the largest database on the forum. We will not be taking it with us. If you would like to keep copies of your PMs, it is crucial that you download them to your own computer. This is very easy, and we will be posting instructions on how to do it. After the forum is moved, we hope to keep the old forum accessible for a few weeks for people who were unable to download their PMs before we moved. We will, of course, have PMing features on the new server.

3. Because the forum will be up and down for the next few days at least, please take this opportunity to get contact information for anyone with whom you are involved in a transaction.
Get an email, chat handle, phone number, or some other kind of non-DoA method of communication.

4. We will be accepting donations to help fund the move.
We are all set for donations for right now. Thank you so much for your generosity! Wow.

We will keep you updated with news and give you a timeline as soon as we have one.

If you have any questions or problems, please PM one of the administrators (green usernames). You will receive the fastest response from armeleia, junkets, or zagzagael. The administrators can also be reached via email at denofangels@gmail.com.
